LIST OF NIGERIAN UNIVERSITIES AND THE COURSES THEY ARE KNOWN FOR

As the 2016 Jamb UTME is fast approaching, and registration has already commenced, many candidates are faced with the huddle of choosing which University is known for, or offers their preferred discipline In Nigeria.

The Universities present in Nigeria can be grouped into three (3) major groups namely; Federal, State and Privately owned Universities in Nigeria as well as Specialised Universities in the fields of Education, Engineering and Technology, Management Science and Health Science/Technology. As a result of the spread of Universities in the country, students find it difficult to select schools to attend that would match with their chosen disciplines.

In Nigeria today, some Universities over the years, have proven themselves to be excellent and extra-ordinary in training students in certain fields/disciplines and as a result have grown a better reputation for some courses than others. It is important that this information is revealed so that Prospective students can perform better when they select Universities that are well known for the courses they’ve applied for. It would be highly disappointing to dream about studying a particular course all your life, but end up getting admission in a school that lacks the academic back up or necessary facilities needed to impact the knowledge needed.

This list came about by researching various schools in the following areas: The accreditation status and stability of department, number of academic staff as well as their academic pedigree, the nature and class of results produced by students in the department, the output of students (development, research, etc), physical structures present in the departments, number and impact factors of journals and academic outputs from department etc.
